Find the post on X in the app or on x.com. It has to be from a public account.

  2. 2

X video to text in a few seconds

Video on X plays muted in the timeline, and the conversation around it moves fast. If a clip said something worth quoting or replying to, you want the words, not a screen recording. This tool takes the link to a public post with a video and gives you what was said as text, usually within 5 to 20 seconds.

How to copy the link to a post on X

In the app (iPhone or Android):

  1. Open the post that has the video.
  2. Tap the Share icon under the post (the arrow, or the box with an arrow).
  3. Tap Copy link.

In a browser:

  1. Click the post's time stamp so it opens on its own page.
  2. Copy the address from the address bar. It looks like x.com/username/status/1234567890.

The link has to point to a single post, not to a profile, a list or a search.

What a transcript of an X video is good for

Quoting without getting it wrong

Clips on X get quoted, paraphrased and argued about within minutes. Having the exact words lets you quote a CEO's announcement, a candidate's answer or an analyst's call correctly, and link back to the post as the source.

Getting more out of your own video posts

If you post talking-head videos, product demos or build-in-public updates, the transcript is a first draft of everything else: a thread, a newsletter section, a LinkedIn post or a changelog entry. Clean up the spoken style, keep the hook, and you have a second post from work you already did.

Captions for cross-posting

A lot of video on X ends up on TikTok, Reels and Shorts too. Download the SRT or VTT file, import it into CapCut, Premiere or DaVinci Resolve, and you have captions timed to the speech without typing them.

TXT, SRT or VTT?

  • TXT is the transcript as plain text, ready to paste into a document or your notes.
  • SRT is a subtitle file: short numbered lines, each with a start and end time. Most video editors import it.
  • VTT (WebVTT) is the format web players use. Pick it if you're adding captions to a video on your own site.

Limits worth knowing

The tool reads what any visitor can watch on X without logging in. It can't get a transcript from:

  • Protected (private) accounts
  • Deleted posts or suspended accounts
  • Videos sent in direct messages
  • Spaces, or posts with music but no talking

Videos up to 5 minutes use one credit. Longer videos use one more credit for every started 5 minutes.

First one free, no account

Your first transcript is free, without signing up. After that you need an account and credits: packs start at $5 for 30 transcripts and never expire, or Pro is $9 a month for 300. A transcript that fails costs nothing. We don't save the video or publish it anywhere; you only receive the text.

ReelToScript is an independent tool and has no affiliation with X Corp.

Use cases

Quoting a clip accurately

Quote what a founder, politician or analyst actually said in a video post, word for word, instead of paraphrasing from memory.

Turning a video post into a thread

Run your own video through the generator and split the transcript into posts, so followers who scroll past video still get the point.

Captions for a repost

Download the SRT or VTT and add captions when you cut the clip for TikTok, Reels or YouTube Shorts.

Research and note-taking

Keep the text of a product demo, a conference clip or a long video post so you can search it later.
